In 1971, a Francis Bacon retrospective was held at the grand Palais in Paris and Bacon was given the title "The Best Living Painter." At exactly the same time George Dyer, his lover and muse, took a fatal overdose of alcohol and drugs. While still hallucinating, Dyer recalls their first meeting and their reckless relationship wherein Bacon's career blossomed and Dyer plummetted downward. A daring and provocative film biography, with an excellent performance by Jacobi. Bacon's paintings, his horrific images, are evoked in bold cinematic language.
