This documentary tells the story of screenwriter and director Richard Linklater, from his birth in Houston, Texas, to becoming one of the most highly esteemed American filmmakers of our age. Long before Boyhood, his passion for innovative cinema led Linklater to work in Austin, far from Hollywood, where he created low-budget independent films. His talent for realistic characters and honest writing stood out, and the road from Slacker to the Before trilogy was short. This comprehensive documentary portrait uses archival materials and selections from his films alongside interviews with Linklater and some of his collaborators, such as Matthew McConaughey, Patricia Arquette and Kevin Smith.
