An in-depth analysis of THE KINDLY ONES, Jonathan Littell's 2006 controversial 1000-page novel, dissecting the ruthless mechanisms of the Shoah from the detached point of view of Maximilian Aue, a high-ranking Nazi officer. Criticized and praised to the skies, the work of the young Franco-American writer immediately unleashed passions, becoming the recipient of the Prix Goncourt and the Académie Française award. While some are indignant at the pornography of the story, others decry its literary genius. This documentary seeks to go beyond the novel’s controversy, raising questions of history, morality, and art.
