The Holy Closet | Gevald

The Holy Closet is a 7-episode documentary web series on religious LGBTs that will air on KAN. Each episode focuses on a character, couple, or family at a different stage in life and around one significant moment - a date, pregnancy, brit, wedding, family reunion, holiday preparations, and a child's birthday. Filmed in a fly-on-the-wall style, the series intimately captures people dealing with the juxtaposition of sexual orientation/gender identity and faith/religious lifestyle. Through meaningful moments and religious practices, we get to know the dilemmas, difficulties, compromises, and triumphs of these characters.

A queer musical. “Shushan”, the only queer bar in Jerusalem, is the setting for this film which takes place on an evening in November, 2006. The next day, a private ‘pride parade’ is due to take place – a smaller procession having had to be cancelled on account of threats of violence from religious organisations. But then, during the course of this evening, a devout woman changes sides …
