9 to 5

USA 1980 | 109 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

Three secretaries decide to take revenge on their sexist, exploitative, and evil boss after he denies one of them a promotion. The axis of this plot gave rise to this 1970s brilliant comedy. Four decades have passed, and some lessons about sexual harassment have been learned, but the film's essence is still alive and well. 9 to 5 is as energetic, jubilant, and charming as it was 40 years ago - thanks in large part to the bullshit-free performances of Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton's charismatic presence. Parton, in her first acting role, was worried about jeopardizing her singing career, but the theme song she wrote - anyone in the know can probably already hear the opening notes in their ears - won her a Grammy and her performance received critical acclaim. In short, this is a delightful classic that is always pleasant to indulge in.
