Princesses

Spain 2005 | 113 minutes | Spanish | Hebrew subtitles

Caye is a prostitute. Not an immigrant or from a poor family, just a middle class girl, though of course no one from her family knows about her job. One day Caye hears loud music from upstairs and discovers Zule, a prostitute from the Dominican Republic, who has been attacked by a pervert with close ties to the immigration authorities. Despite their differences, a bold friendship develops between the two complicated, tough but vulnerable women. "Princesas is social realism infused with a wonderful, figurative touch. His ability to turn grim realities into glimpses of humanity, absent of sentimentality or cliche, stems from his sensitivity, vitality and humor - not to mention two exceptionally talented actors," (John Nein, Sundance Film Festival).
