Little Lili

France 2003 | 105 minutes | French | Hebrew subtitles

Claude Miller's film is a modern adaptation, full of warmth and grace, of Chekhov's The Seagull, the tale of an aspiring director whose ambitions are crushed by his overbearing actress mother. Chekhov's late 19th-century Russian village is replaced by a country estate in contemporary France, and the world of the theater that provides the background for Chekhov's masterpiece is replaced by that of the cinema.
