In the 25th century, society is ruled by robots and computers. Passions and emotions are suppressed with the help of drugs. When a man named THX 1138 and his colleague LUH 3417 decide to dilute the quantity of drugs, they discover cravings and are forced to run from the morality police. George Lucas' debut film is a sheer display of cinematic talent. His plot, as Roger Ebert wrote, is "Orwell for the poor," but from a cinematic point-of-view, he manages to design a futuristic world with little budget and means. Many elements that will transform "Star Wars" into a cinematic universe are already present.
