Three Men in the Snow

West Germany 1955 | 93 minutes | German | Hebrew subtitles

An eccentric millionaire holds a lottery in his newspaper and participates in it under a pseudonym. He wins second place, and under the same pseudonym, he travels to claim the prize: a hotel vacation. His daughter calls the hotel and warns them that a millionaire is on his way. The hotel manager is so anxious to prove himself that he cozies up to the competition winner - not our millionaire but the simple guy who won first place and arrived first. He pushes the millionaire himself into an inferior room and belittles him. "Three Men in the Snow" was written by Erich Kästner at a time when the Nazis banned the publication of new works penned by him. The film adaptation presents the same elements that made it so beloved: the desire for decency and some degree of goodwill and normalcy. This is a pleasant comedy that captures the heart.
