Sicily, early 20th century. After being convinced by postcards that in America money grows on trees, Salvatore decides to leave his village move with the kids to the New World. He sells his sheep in exchange for shoes for him and his sons, and three set out for the port to catch a ship. Among the many villagers dressed in their Sunday best, a mysterious woman stands out. The journey to America in cramped conditions turns their simple existence into one of adventures, and in the last part of the journey they will have to deal with the immigration authorities in Ellis Island, the last door between them and the land of opportunity…
