Garden State

USA 2004 | 102 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

When Andrew's father calls to tell him his mother "drowned" in the tub, he returns home to a small hall in Jersey. He meets all his childhood friends, who didn't get too far in life, while he enjoyed a mediocre career as an actor in Los Angeles. At the doctor's waiting room, to whom he confesses that he has stopped taking all the drugs his psychiatrist father prescribes for him, he meets Sam, with a golden smile and quite a collection of personal problems. Twenty years have passed since this tender romantic comedy came out. Armed with a reputation as the star of Scrubs, Zach Braff created a portrait of a generation that, more than relying on a plot, manages to capture the atmosphere of despondency at the beginning of the millennium. With a rich soundtrack, an incredible collection of supporting actors, and of Natalie Portman's illuminating presence - the result is a singular work that is a perfect capsule of a lost moment.
