Moving

Japan 1993 | 125 minutes | Japanese | Hebrew, English subtitles

Renko is a brilliant and energetic sixth grader in Kyoto. When Renko's father leaves, she and her mother are forced to restart their lives. But when the mother tries to set new rules, their relationship falters. Shinji Sômai is considered a unique voice in Japanese cinema and relatively unknown in the West. This restoration demonstrates his style: lingering shots, fusion of the real and the surreal, between the familiar and the abstract. This is an opportunity to get to know one of the key works of contemporary Japanese cinema.
