The Exiles

France 2004 | 104 minutes | French, Arabic | Hebrew subtitles

The plot opens with a young Parisian couple who are happy in newfound love. When they realize that both have roots in Algeria, they decide to head down to that country, in a spontaneous voyage. From the other direction, a young Algerian couple is making the opposite trip. As in "Gadjo Dillo" and "Vengo," Tony Gatliff's film once again reflects the free spirit of many of Europe's young vagabonds. Unlike his previous films, however, this one does not revolve around his usual protagonists - the gypsies - but rather those who have been affected by more recent tides of immigration and exile.
