Two years after the end of the military dictatorship in Argentina, nine generals are prosecuted for war crimes. In a country where democracy might have won, but the previous government still has a hold of several positions of power, Prosecutor Julio César Strassera realizes that to obtain a conviction, he will have to act wisely. He chooses a young assistant and, with the help of law students, conducts an in-depth investigation that brings a series of witnesses to the court. Based on historical events, Argentina, 1985 is an exceptional court drama that has captured critics and audiences alike since its premiere in Venice. Ricardo Darín’s presence provides depth and complexity to the main character, and the result is a reminder of the importance of an independent and functioning judicial system.
