A Hundred Flowers

Japan 2022 | 104 minutes | Japanese | Hebrew, English subtitles

On New Year's Eve, Izumi finds his mother Yuriko wandering in a frozen park. She is diagnosed with dementia, and her consciousness quickly retreats to the inner realms. But in her son's heart, Yuriko remains his beloved mother, who raised him alone, and in his memories, she is alive and vital as she always was. The painful separation process from his mother also reveals surprising results, during which Izumi discovers his mother's secrets. The tender and compassionate cinematic reference to a familiar but almost unspoken phenomenon of dealing with the aging and forgetfulness of a parent transforms this beautiful film into a delicate work, which evokes thought and multifaceted emotions.
