Inu-oh

Japan 2021 | 98 minutes | Japanese | Hebrew, English subtitles

Inu-oh, a Noh performer with unique physical characteristics, and Tomona, a blind biwa priest, meet during the Muromachi period and start performing together. As their shows break all the rules of traditional arts, they become the pop stars of a brand new era.

Hideo Furukawa’s novel, “The Tale of the Heike: The Inu-Oh Chapters”, presents a bold interpretation based on the enigmatic real-life Noh performer, Inu-oh. Masaaki Yuasa, one of the great names of the animation industry, has now taken this story, adapted it to the big screen with his audacious imaginative touch, and created this version of “Inu-oh”. What if hip-hop, rock music, feverish outdoor music festivals, and engaging musical numbers all existed in 14th-century Japan.
