The story of a peasant girl who becomes a servant to a Saigon merchant in the early 1950s, and of her journey of servitude and eventually romance. Tran Anh Hung sticks to the point of view of his heroine, and her patient observation teaches us not only about the lives of her employers but also about nature in a kind of cinema of poetry.
