On Dangerous Ground

USA 1951 | 82 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

A violent policeman is sent to investigate the murder of a young girl in a snowy country town. There he falls in love with a blind woman, the sister of the main suspect. Ida Lupino who directed the film (uncredited) with Nicholas Ray is spectacular in the role, and Bernard Herrmann’s soundtrack complements the unusual camera movement that Ray chose for the action scenes: a shaky handheld camera. On Dangerous Ground is a harsh noir, in which the snowy landscapes are an arena for violence and loneliness, moral embarrassment, and the longing for kindness and love. In short, an unmissable film.
