Outrage

USA 1950 | 75 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

The life of a newly engaged young woman is shattered when she is raped. She decides to leave town, severs all connection to her family and fiancé, and create a new identity. A young clergyman takes an interest in her, although she won't confide in him. When a ranch hand tries to kiss her, she nearly kills him. Ida Lupino crafted a rare and feminist film that deals with a taboo subject of that time. She utilizes the film noir style to emphasize the emotional and mental dimensions of trauma through cinematic means. Outrage is a melodrama that directly attacks the social and emotional consequences of sexual assault.
