Open Hearts

Denmark 2002 | 113 minutes | Danish | Hebrew, English subtitles

A young couple is in the midst of preparations for their wedding when a car accident leaves the groom paralyzed from the neck down. Terribly depressed and unable to spare his fiancée his terrible mood swings, he asks her to leave him. Meanwhile, the woman responsible for the accident, wracked with guilt, pushes her husband (by chance the doctor of the first man) into the arms of the first young woman. Talented Scandinavian filmmaker Susanne Bier wraps this telenovela-like plot into the rules (more or less) of Dogma 95.
