In August, 1966, a sniper barricaded himself on the top floor of a tower at The University of Texas at Austin, where for the next 96 harrowing minutes, he carried out the US’s first ever shooting to take place at an academic institute. Director Keith Maitland has opted to use animation painted over archive footage as a means of bringing back to life that dark day in US history where one shocking incident brought an entire community and later, a whole nation together. The survivors’ chilling testimonies, recounted in the style of an action thriller were only part of what went on to win the film the top three awards at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, 50 years after the massacre.
