Guy Maddin is undoubtedly one of the strangest, most fascinating voices in contemporary cinema. Ever since his debut feature, Tales from the Gimli Hospital, the Canadian director has been refining his language in a series of films that express his love of silent film, classic melodramas and his native Winnipeg. Yves Montmayeur documents Maddin as he works on his latest film, The Forbidden Room, presenting behind-the-scenes materials alongside interviews with Maddin and his devoted cast (including Udo Kier and Isabella Rossellini), revealing the great filmmaker's creative world and influences, ranging from Fritz Lang to John Waters. Winner of Best Documentary on Cinema at the Venice Film Festival.
