This cinematic triptych follows several women in Montana: a lawyer (Laura Dern) attempting to calm down a disgruntled client holding a hostage; a married woman (Michelle Williams) planning her family's new home while dealing with marital fissures; and a shy ranch hand who strikes a friendship with a young lawyer (Kristen Stewart) teaching an adult education class.
In her minimalist language, and with three magnificent actresses, indie veteran Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy) continues her sharp-eyed study of the margins of American society. Certain Women, based on the short stories of Montana-based author Maile Meloy, premiered at the last Sundance Festival to great critical acclaim.
