The Cinema of Artavazd Pelechian
Artavazd Pelechian, born 1938, is an Armenian film poet, disciple of the Soviet montage tradition, since the 1960s he has been raising poignant questions about human nature, the world, and the relationships between them.
Pelechian's cinematography and montage are breathtaking; the raw materials: a baby born, a couple getting married, a person dying, growing grain, herds gliding through steep ravines and flowing rivers - a world where the seasons change in an endless circle - all these become in his sensitive lens a song of life, death, and renewal.
