In 1976, the inhabitants of the island of Guadeloupe were evacuated after international experts predicted a volcanic eruption. Despite warnings of certain death, one elderly peasant refused to leave; intrigued, Herzog and a crew of two cameramen decided to join him. The result is a haunting, visionary work.
