Victor Van Dort is the son of nouveaux riches looking for some noble blood to anchor their fortune. Victoria is the daughter of an aristocratic family that has lost its fortune. A match between the two seems like a perfect solution for both families. Shy Victor wanders the forest to practice his wedding vows and accidentally weds a deceased bride. She jumps out and drags Victor into the world of the dead, a rather cheerful place. Tim Burton wraps this romantic plot with his hallmark touch of macabre, a sprinkling of evil, visual perfection, and abundant humor. Add to this the excellent stop-motion animation, the voices of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and others, and the soundtrack by Danny Elfman, and you have an entertaining gem of animation.
